AEP onboarding: the 90-day playbook
Adobe Experience Platform is one of the most powerful platforms in the ecosystem. It's also one of the easiest to underutilize. Here's how to get to value in 90 days.

Adobe Experience Platform is technically impressive and notoriously hard to get value from quickly. The platform can do a lot. That's part of the problem. Teams get lost in the surface area and spend months in configuration before anything useful happens.
Ninety days is enough to get to real value if you stay focused. Here's how we structure it.
Days 1-30: Foundation
This phase is entirely about getting the plumbing right. Schema design first. If your XDM schemas don't reflect how your business thinks about customers and events, everything built on top will be wrong.
- —Design XDM schemas for your core entities: profile, events, products
- —Connect your primary data sources (website, CRM, point of sale)
- —Configure identity stitching: what makes a person a person across your data
- —Validate data quality before activating anything
The most common mistake in this phase is rushing to activation before the data foundation is solid. Bad data in, bad segments out. Slow down here.
Days 31-60: Activation
With clean data flowing, you can start building. Focus on your highest-priority use case first, not the most technically interesting one.
- —Build your first two or three audience segments
- —Connect destination channels (email, paid media, on-site personalization)
- —Launch one Journey Optimizer flow tied to a real business goal
- —Set up measurement: how will you know if this is working?
Days 61-90: Optimization
Now you have data, segments, and at least one live activation. This phase is about learning from what you have and expanding carefully.
- —Review segment accuracy: are the right people in the right buckets?
- —Measure activation performance against the goals you set in phase two
- —Add your second use case based on what you learned
- —Document your data model and processes so the next person can get up to speed
The teams that get the most from AEP are the ones that ship something in the first 60 days, even if it's small. Momentum matters. Don't let perfect be the enemy of live.
If you're mid-implementation and stuck, or about to start and not sure where to begin, we've run this playbook enough times to know where things go wrong. Happy to talk through your situation.
